The pace of Wi-Fi generations is accelerating. After WiFi 6 and newer Wi-Fi 6E, the industry is preparing to welcome the seventh generation. The kick-off is to take place at CES 2022, which opens its doors on January 5, 2022. The event is always very important for the sector as it allows you to discover future trends and scenarios.
During a conference aimed at developers, the giant MediaTek promised to give a first demonstration of a Wi-Fi 7 network at CES 2022.
2.4 times faster than WiFi 6e
MediaTek has grown tremendously and in just a few years, many of its chips are present in all connected device ecosystems in the home.
What’s important to know is that the speed promised by Wi-Fi is 2.4 times faster than previous generations. In addition, latency is significantly reduced to unlock new applications, especially low-latency cloud gaming. We are also thinking of wireless virtual reality connected to a PC.
Interference between Wi-Fi 7 networks would also be reduced. The aim would be to counteract signal saturation in very densely populated areas.
Default to be determined
The presentation at CES will help us understand the standards, because today we are far from a product for commercial use. The Wi-Fi Alliance has not yet finalized the specifications for this new generation and is expected to be ready by the end of 2022.
