For several years, Apple has made it a habit to release its operating system in phases† The new iPhones always have the latest version installed, but as often happens, some of the new features promised during the big presentation conference are missing.
ProRes format arrives
With the beta 3 of iOS 15.1, Apple finally allows you to use ProRes in video mode in the Camera application. To do this, you need to go to the phone settings, camera options and select the Apple ProRes format.
Apple had warned by limiting the function on iPhone 13 128GB: the ProRes function consumes a lot of storage space (6 GB per minute in 4K with HDR and 1.7 GB per minute in HD†
This is due to Apple’s use, without any options, of the ProRes 422HQ format. Other ProRes formats offered by Apple to professionals take up less storage space. A future evolution of the system may make it possible to select the format.
Macro mode off
One of the pain points of using the iPhone 13 Pro’s camera is the auto macro mode. You can shoot a document up close and the camera will automatically switch to macro mode, with iOS 15.1 Apple lets you choose whether you want this automatic switch or not.
