It’s been rumored for a while, but it’s finally official. Mark Zuckerberg has officially announced Facebook’s name change to Meta . will be called† like the metaverse he plans to build.
Clarify, social media will continue to be called Facebookand will keep the same logo. Parent company name changesthe one who runs the numerous platforms such as Instagram, Whatsapp and, precisely, Facebook.
According to Zuckerberg, the move was made to broaden the brand and decouple from the single platform. “Right now, our brand is so closely associated with a product that it cannot possibly represent everything we do today, let alone in the future”† Probably the numerous scandals that have hit Facebook lately don’t they did accelerate this willingness to change.
The goal of Meta is precisely to create a real metaverse. It will be a shared universe between all of the company’s proprietary platforms, a mix of virtual, online and augmented reality† In this environment people can work, communicate and have fun, just like in the real world.
We are seen as a social media, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people. I hope that in time we will be seen as a metaverse society.
At the moment they are part of Meta Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and the Oculus virtual reality viewer. In the future, these services are likely to expand and become even more interconnected.
